Mages like all dps classes are a good class to grind/farm gold with.
The downside to mages is the mana consumption you cant keep chain pulling without brakes.
But you could use AOE to grind wich brings it back on par or even surpasses the best farming classes. Just takes more skill and concentration. But thats discussed in the AOE section.
This here is just for normal single pull farming.
A mage with decent gear can pretty much 3 shot anything. Use a slow casting high dmg nuke to pull(frostbolt,pyroblast,fireball) then cast something a bit quicker(scorch,frostbolt) and then finish it with fireblast or icelance if frost bite proced.
If there is 2 or more polymorph 1 or use frost nova or use AOE to kill both at the same time.
Make sure u have a ton of water and food conjured and just drink every few pulls for a short time to keep downtime to a minimum and so you always have enough mana to handle any adds or gankers(pvp server)
